Yateley Split lake has suffered the loss of about 20 fish.
In the words of Cemex angling boss Mick Barnes:
"There has been a small fish kill at the split lake in Yateley.
Around 20 carp have died, a few twenty pound plus fish among them.
The EA attended and said that the algae in the lake have died which caused the dissolved oxygen to plummet as the decomosition of the algae uses up oxygen, couple this with the low air pressure of a week or so ago and the oxygen went down to a dangerous level. As I have said around 20 fish have died sadly.
The EA have told me that this had nothing to do with the weed treatment completed in the early spring, because I did ask, however, they did say that the situation was made worse with the amount of leaf litter that falls into the lakes in this area.
I would like to thank the bailiffs that helped with the maintenance of the pumps and generators and of course with the unpleasant job of burying the fish."
UPDATE: Sadly a couple of the larger residents, potential 30lb+ fish, have now been reported dead. Spikes Fish and a common.
