The famous Yateley north lake will open again in June as a day tickt water!!
The North lake holds a huge soft spot in many anglers hearts. Formerly home of the awesome Bazil (pictured with Tanb editor Steve Fudge), at her prime one of the finest carp in the country, and a water whose banks were graced by many of the countries finest carpers over the years such as Maylin, Hearn and Sharp it was closed a couple of years after Bazil's death and after seeing little attention it now appears the water is to reopen on a day ticket.
This is a decision that will no doubt sadden some and excite others. On the one hand it will be seen as another nail in the coffin of Yateley as the historic venue it once was, on the other an opportunity for new people to experience what is a stunning and interesting lake. Only the Car park remains as a low stock venue on the Yateley complex which will now boast 5 day ticket waters with the addition of the North.
10 or 12 originals still remain in the lake and another 80 or so new fish have been added, mainly sutton strain fish which was of course Bazil's heritage but also 30 carp from the cemex controlled Blue Pool in the last week.
At the end of the day it is a good thing that the North is being returned to angling and will no doubt provide a new generation of anglers with stories and memories for many years. However we can't help feeling that a new low stock syndicate venue, as originally hoped for, would have been more fitting given the history of the water although this may not have been possible due to commercial realities.
