CEMEX licences for bait boats - 04 January 2007 - Back

In a slightly controversial move Cemex angling under new chief Mick Barnes has created a new requirement for a bait boat licence on Cemex waters.

UPDATE NOTE: Jan '07 - Reference to this new rule appears to have been removed from the cemex site so it is possible that this idea has been scrapped.

In a move that has no doubt got raging debate going Cemex angling has decided to impose a Bait boat licence requirement on boat users from the 1st of March.

The licence will cost ?25 a year or ?2 per session as a supplement to day ticket prices. Whilst this move is likely to be applauded by those who dislike the use of bait boats it will no doubt be unpopular in many circles, and seen as profiteering by Cemex which has also upped ticket prices by inflation beating amounts this year. They would of course point out that extra revenue can be used to improve facilities and that angling tickets are still cheap on a per hour basis compared to many other sports.

The main justification for the imposition of a bait boat license is given as "to enable CEMEX Angling to monitor the usage of bait boats to ensure that fish safety is not compromised." Many prestigious waters such as Horton and Dinton Pastures already ban the use of boats.

As with all rule changes it is impossible to judge conclusively how this will pan out, and if successful whether it will be adopted by other fisheries, but we shall watch with interest.
