One of the all time classic carp hooks
Conties as they are usually known are one of carpings classic hooks. Originally designed as a beefed up version of the Drennan Boilie Hook they have a place in every big carp anglers armoury.
Conties feature a slight offset and beaked point which I find is good for hook hold purposes and come in small plastic boxes of tens which is a nice idea and theoretically prevents hook points turning against other hooks in transit or storage.
They feature an outturned eye and for that reason I prefer to use them for stiff rigs of mono/amnesia type hooklinks where the stiffness of the filament causes some turning angle. For this reason though they are would not be my choice for a braided hooklink rig, preferring the Kamasan B775 for these purposes
Another well known quality of the conties and the basis for their inception is obviously their strength. I have used both the eights and sizes extensively and have never bent or snapped one. Obviously this shouldn't happen with any hook but does.
Probably the only thing I can think of against them is the size disparity, i.e. there is quite a differnce between the 8s and 6s and would quite like something inbetween to match some bait sizes.
All in all though a great hook that has landed many big carp and one that can be relied in testing circumstance, still a top choice for stiff hooklink materials. 9/10
