Everybody needs a good heavy braid in their hooklink armoury. A quick look at ESP's offering.
Coated braid hooklinks are probably used more then any other hooklink at the moment but there is still an important place for plain braid in the rig wallet. It doesn't cast so well although this can be done with great success, see Darrell Pecks Car Park results. For virtually all edge fishing opportunities and stalking situations though braid is a good bet.
The old staple for these circumstances before Sink Link came along was good old Merlin, the negative buoyancy braid from the kryston stable, which has certainly accounted for a lot of big carp over the years. How does ESP sink link differ? First up it's a tighter and slightly denser weave which gives a finer diameter for the breaking strain compared to merlin. Secondly the colouration is a bit darker and duller then the Merlin which against most bottoms is probably a good thing
In use it has presented no problems and handles nicely, does what it says on the tin really. Is it better then Merlin?? I prefer it due largely to the tighter weave though would still be totally happy with Merlin as a staple braid. 9/10
