Following his review of a travel carp rod, Kevin's thoughts on a travel landing net.
I bought the fox tourist net at the same time as the rod previously reviewed.
It has 42 inch arms which slide apart giving a collapsed size of 21 inches.
The mesh itself is very soft and of the dual mesh type, making it easy to move throught the water. The net also has two straps fixed at the join of the two mesh types, one either side of the net. This makes it very easy to reach into the net when you are ready to lift the fish out of the water and transport to the unhooking mat.
The telescopic handle which comes with the net is slightly longer than the collapsed length of the net when collapsed. I measured it at 28 inches, so this needs to be taken into account if putting into a suitcase for traveling abroad. I had to store mine corner to corner in the suitcase as I bought the case assuming that the handle would collapse to 21 inches much like the net arms!!
The handle is not that strong being of fiberglass but well up to the job its been designed for. Just don’t try taking too much of the weight of the carp when landing the fish or you will hear it cracking, just as mine did when the lad I had with me tried to lift a carp out of the water!!! A few quick insults stopped him doing that again.
On the whole I thought the landing net well worth the £70 odd quid that I payed for it. And of course you can use it as a spare or second net when you get home.
