Car Park to be stocked - 05 October 2007 - Back

Car Park to be stocked

Depending on your perspective good or bad news, but the Yateley Car Park lake is going to recieve some new fish this winter.

In a twist that will probably alarm most old school and well as many newer carpers the legendary Car Park is set to recieve a stocking of 8-10 fish from the pad lake during the winter, with the commons removed.

Whilst it is understandable that Cemex feel the need to ensure the long term profitability of the venue. I can't help but be slightly concerned by this development for the following reasons:
- Any stocking is a risk. Given the Pad Lake is a high stock water with a high turnaround of anglers are steps going to be taken to ensure the new stockees are 100% disease free??
- Whilst the Pad Lakes Simmos are British fish and have been successful on many newer waters, these are not generally long lived fish and not within the character of the venue. On the large quantities of bait the Car Park sees are they just going to pack the weight on fast then die.
- The slower growing, longer living Sutton type strains are more likely to provide a long term low stock big carp water so one has to ask the question whether maintaining this is the ultimate aim??
- How will the commons be removed?? Netting isn't feasable due to the snags and electrofishing has a patchy history as regards the survival of older fish.

All in all fingers crossed it goes ok, for the sake of some of Britains most historic fish, but can't help thinking this could be done in a better way.
