A look at a range of leads from a smaller name in the lead market.
Recently on the forum there was a post about a South West based company offering leads at economical prices. As with all end tackle, and especially with the prevalence of modern lead dropping safe rigs, costs can very quickly mount up so am always interested in smaller companies offering comparable products to the big boys, at better prices.
As a result I got chatting to Paul at CATackle, and shortly afterwards a weighty parcel came thunking onto my doormat with a selection of leads to put through their paces.
Now obviously leads aren't the most exotic of items given their primary function but of course shape choice and coating are all important considerations when choosing a lead for a specific job and CA seem to offer a good choice.
The selection before me offered all the key shapes, dumpy pear, flat pear, ball, zipp type, inline, watch and a slightly flattened ball in a variety of finishes to suit most bottoms. Whilst I tend to use a smooth brown or dark green, for most of my fishing, the organic coatings very much in vogue at the moment do look interesting and CATackle's version does look the part. Also on offer are a sandy coloured light gravel and rough green and brown.
Swivel and loop quality seems good and coatings robust and durable so all in all these look good value for money at 60p per lead, a good saving over the big name prices.
Paul's website is http://www.catackle.com - Carp Fishing Leads. Well worth a look.
